Bill Corbett, Betrayer

7 06 2008

So I was thinking of writing a post about how ashamed I should feel about ripping off stealing borrowing from the blog of Bill Corbett of rifftrax.com and MST3K fame. But that was before his last post!

I was totally suckered into a link he described as a great Rick Roll. Yes, I know the fact that he told us he was going to Rick Roll us should have clued me in that he, in fact, was not going to Rick Roll us. The link pointed to a video of a nicely dressed gentleman talking. I’m not going to re-post that link here for fear that one of you might actually watch it. Suffice it to say that the gentleman cannot seem to stop talking about some internet legislation in excruciating detail. I watched over seven (7) minutes of it waiting for something cool to happen. It did not. I feel dumber for not catching on sooner.

Truth be known, I saw both of the Star Trek captains’ posts on Bill’s blog first. Understand that I posted them for different reasons than he. Okay, he had reasons to post them and I did it for practically no reason at all. I feel no shame in posting something cool I saw somewhere else (because that’s where most cool stuff comes from) but twice from the same place in one week is cheating. He just happens to share my sense of humor on matters of sci-fi.

After following his link and allowing myself to be his stooge, I feel like Everett (Ulysses) in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou after Pete’s brother turned them in for the ransom. Here’s the scene for those who barely remember:

Pete: You miserable little snake! You stole from my kin!
Ulysses Everett McGill: Who was fixin’ to betray us.
Pete: You didn’t know that at the time.
Ulysses Everett McGill: So I borrowed it until I did know.
Pete: That don’t make no sense!
Ulysses Everett McGill: Pete, it’s a fool that looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.

And there you have it. I was simply borrowing his ideas until I could discover his betrayal. Now that he’s done this unthinkable deed, I feel vindicated.

So there, Bill Corbett. I think we’re even.

[Actually, I commented on his blog that the video left me a little stunned and feeling ill and he responded with a token apology. It was kinda cool that he would respond to me.]
